The STIHL HSA 140 R is a powerful, heavy-duty battery hedge trimmer built for professional landscapers and garden maintenance work. Comparable in performance to the petrol HS 82, it is part of the STIHL AP System and runs on a 36 V lithium-ion AP battery, delivering strong cutting performance, low vibration and quiet operation.
Designed for annual pruning and reduction work, the HSA 140 R features a low blade speed, double-sided cutting blade and 38 mm tooth spacing, making it ideal for cutting thicker twigs and branches cleanly and efficiently. The stroke rate can be adjusted between 2,800, 3,000 and 3,200 rpm to suit different hedge conditions.
A built-in battery slot means there is no need to wear a battery on your belt or back, helping improve comfort and freedom of movement. When paired with the recommended AP 200 S battery, the hedge trimmer is well balanced for easier handling over longer periods. It is also IPX4-rated, so it can be used in poor weather conditions, while the rotating handle makes it easier to cut the tops and sides of hedges from different angles.
The HSA 140 R also has an anti-jamming function. If the blades become stuck on thicker branches, releasing and pulling the trigger again makes the blades run in the opposite direction to help clear the jam. Its new gearbox system works with the EC motor to provide high cutting force and rapid acceleration.
With the recommended AP 200 S battery, the HSA 140 R offers a working time of around 100 to 150 minutes per charge. For longer run times, it can also be used with the AP 300 S or AP 500 S batteries, although these will increase the overall weight and alter the balance of the machine.
