The STIHL FS 38 is the lightest petrol grass trimmer in the STIHL range, making it an excellent choice for homeowners who want a reliable tool for keeping lawn edges neat and tidy. Powered by a 27.2cc petrol engine, the FS 38 delivers smooth, dependable performance for everyday garden maintenance. Its lightweight design and practical loop handle give excellent manoeuvrability, allowing you to work comfortably in tighter spaces such as around shrubs, garden furniture and borders.

Designed for Easy Operation

The FS 38 features a single-handed multi-function control handle, placing all essential controls within easy reach so the trimmer can be operated safely and comfortably with either hand. This straightforward design keeps operation simple while maintaining precise control during trimming.

A manual fuel pump helps reduce the number of pulls needed when starting the machine. By priming the carburettor before starting, fuel reaches the system more quickly, making the trimmer easier to start, particularly after longer periods without use.

Efficient Grass Trimming

Supplied with the AutoCut C 6-2 mowing head, the FS 38 provides a generous 380 mm cutting circle for efficient trimming of grass edges and light vegetation. The head automatically feeds new mowing line when tapped on the ground, keeping cutting performance consistent.

For tougher areas or slightly thicker growth, the trimmer can also be fitted with a PolyCut cutting head, making it suitable for thinning work and tackling larger weeds.

Lightweight and Comfortable

Weighing just 4.1 kg (without fuel), the FS 38 is easy to handle during longer trimming sessions. The balanced design reduces fatigue and allows precise control, helping you achieve clean, professional-looking lawn edges.

STIHL Tip

For improved durability, STIHL recommend soaking nylon mowing line in water for 12–24 hours before use. This helps keep the line flexible and less prone to breaking during operation.
